Very slow wired ethernet, WIFI fine

Post by joolz237 »

This issue is driving me mad. Coming to the conclusion that my 7800N is borked. But one last try ..

Recently had FTTC installed. BT engineer came, added new wall socket etc. All fine. BT modem seems to be working fine also. I can PPPoE from my Mac directly into BT Modem and get 76+ MBPS no problem.

I connect the BT modem to my 7800N via EWAN, after a factory reset, and connection to ISP is made without any problem. If I then connect to the 7800N via wifi I get 70+ MBPS and everything looks great.

But .. connect to the 7800N from laptop via wired ethernet and all speedtests (mostly used BT but they're pretty consistent) indicate max of about 3 MBPS.

Firmware is latest. Tried multiple factory resets. Tried different cables. Tried different computers. Story is always the same. WIFI performance is excellent, but wired connection stinks.

Any suggestions very much appreciated. If it was just a little bit slower on wired ethernet I'd live with it, but 70+ down to 3 must be something fundamental. Of course I can use WIFI if computers are in range but unfortunately they're not normally so I have to fix one way or another.

Here's hoping ..

Have you tried a different ethernet port, or are all ports showing the same speed??

Also what colour is the ethernet LED's on the front of the router, once your laptop is connected??

Don't know if you've resolved this yet, but I had a very similar experience when I had BT Infinity installed a few weeks ago. I was getting 70Mb download but 0.12 upload. Turned out that it was being caused by a utility running on my ASUS Sabretooth Z77 motherboard. The utility was ASUS AI Suite, in particular Network iControl. As soon as I disabled AI Suite, I got 15/16 Mb upload.
