Just bought a second hand BiPac 8800AXL from ebay (which may not be a good start) and it works fine, except for the random connection drop outs.
Only started on this router, so it could be an issue with the device itself, but it was quite new before it was sold to us so I'd like to think that isn't the case.

2.32e fireware, drops about 3/4 times a day. I thought it was heavy DNS traffic but I've tried to divert it and still get drop outs (the clients still show the router IP as the DNS even though I've changed the DNS servers in the settings and restarted router and connection.. which is a bit frustrating)

The most recent drop shows an error in the log (and there was no use of the office network at the time)
It dropped at 6:04 am, and picked up again at 6:11 - according to my monitoring system.

sorry I forgot to mention that the router cannot be accessed via local IP when it freezes. The router appears fully operational by looking at the lights (no lights go out). It does seem to resolve itself, but also a restart fixes the problem

Ok it just happened again. I had enabled 'debugging' logging, but didn't seem to make any difference.

Wondering if any technician knows a possible solution, flash the firmware, or downgrade then upgrade the firmware maybe? Even to just test if it *must* be a hardware issue with the router or not.

Any network setup information you need let me know. We recently upgraded to BT infinity and the BT router had the same settings and worked flawlessly but didn't support our Vodafone Sure Signal for some reason, hence the Billion.

There was a 3 week wait for a new Billion 8800AXL which is why we got one from ebay. There may be a small window to return the router but I need to make sure it is actually faulty, as don't want to buy another to find the same issue occurs.

Please let me know your thoughts.

I'm going to experiment when I find time. Such as Use our server as DHCP, disable our Vodafone Sure Signal, restore factory and redo settings again. Any additional ideas very much appreciated. We have a server running for clients in the UK and the USA and need reliable up time!

Try loading the attached firmware also for the DNS issue, try disabling 'Use Router's setting as DNS Server' and enter the DNS server you want to use, then release and renew the IP address on all devices and the DNS servers should be the ones you entered

Thanks! I was only renewing - releasing first was the key, forgot about that.

I can't do the firmware yet, as hope not to disrupt any work - but once it goes down again I may as well do the firmware at the same time.

I got the new firmware on last night. It wasn't used overnight so I have no idea about then but by this morning the internet was cutting out more often than before but for shorter times, and also local intranet loading times were disastrous. The connection was never 'disconnected' but I wouldn't be able to load anything and I wouldn't be able to connect to the router - all settings were the same. It only lasted about 1 minute each time but happened every 15 minutes (rough estimates)

I've put the old router in again so we can get on with work, loaded the 2.32e on there again, and I'll test it one last time tonight - if it keep doing this it's gotta be faulty right?

I upgraded the firmware again and everything ran fine over the weekend but started again on Monday. Wifi works fine but ethernet traffic locks up!? I'll just look to return it, something must be up with it!
