Can you tell me if the 8800NL has issues with NAT Loopback (eg Can I access internal servers from an internal LAN via the WAN IP address)?

I'm trying to get a Synology NAS working and despite setting up port forwarding I can't seem to access the server via the WAN. Access via it's LAN IP address works. I'd like to eliminate the possibility that this is due to a "NAT loopback issue" with the Billion router.

I know there is a work around if it does but I'm trying confirm access from outside works without driving some miles to access a free wifi connection to test it.

Also, can anyone confirm that I do/don't have to disable uPnP when adding port forwarding via the "virtual servers" dialog?

NAT loopback works fine on the 8800NL

When using manual port forwarding it will be best to disable UPNP, on the device eg Synology (not on the router, as other applications rely on UPNP eg Skype etc)

Also when adding the port forwarding rules on the 8800NL, make sure the correct 'Interface' is selected eg PPPOA for ADSL or PPPOE for VDSL etc

Once the ports are forwarded you can also run a port scan to see if the ports are open or not.

(one common issue is people forgot to adjust the default gateway on the device (Synology) so it might be worth double checking that)

I had it all working some months back when we were on ADSL and didn't notice when it stopped working. In the meantime we changed router and switched to fibre. I would never have spotted that the Billion defaults to PPPOA when you are setting up forwarding rules manually.
