Is the firewall enabled by default?

Yes it is, you can double check this by following the steps below
1. Login to router
2. Click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN Service'
3. Edit your WAN connection (PPPOE or PPPOA or IPOE)
4. Check to see if the 'Firewall' option is ticked
