Router cannot handle BT IP channels

Hi,

I bought a Billion 8800NL router to replace my BT homehub 5.

Since doing so i have followed the guides on here to set up the BT IP channels (mainly just for BT sport) However i have got it to the point where i can watch the BT sport channels with no issue but as soon as i do everything else on the network comes to a trickle so it keeps connected but not enough to actually be able to use it, also when i put BT sport on the LAN and the wireless LED on the router just start going crazy and just keep flashing.

I have been trying to figure this out for about a week and i dont seem to be getting any closer to resolving.

Can anyone please give some advise

Try enabling 'Wireless Multicast Forwarding (WMF)' under 'Configuration >> Wireless >> Basic'

Hi Billion Fan,

That worked great for the wifi, thank you very much!

Is there anyway to isolate the lan port for the bt vision box so other lan devices aren't affected by the multicast?

I only ask as the LEDS seem to affect all lan ports even when recording bt sport channels.

Any help again would be appreciated

1. Set the IGMP Snooping Mode to 'Blocking Mode' (normal default settings)
2. Click on 'Interface Grouping'
3. Click on 'Add'
4. Under 'Available WAN Interfaces' move both WAN's to the left hand box so both WAN's should be listed 'Grouped WAN Interfaces'
5. Under 'Available LAN Interfaces' select the port your you view box/BT Vision is attached to, and move it to the left so it is listed under 'Grouped LAN Interfaces'
6. Enter a 'Group Name' eg 'IPTV'
7. Click on 'Apply'
8. Click on 'Configuration >> LAN'
9. Change the 'Group Name' to 'IPTV'
10. Change the 'IGMP Snooping Mode' to 'Standard Mode'
11. Click on 'Apply'
12. Restart your you view box

Hi, I'd be interested on how you got on with this as I'm thinking of switching from a HH5 (Type B) back to my Billion for my new fibre install. I've pre-configured the Billion according to the BTTV info on the increasebroadbandspeed website, but was not aware of this particular issue.

If you are looking at getting our newer 8900 series (1600r2 or 2400)

Thanks for the info. I had previously been using my 8800NL on ADSL2 (before upgrade to fibre) working fine with BT Sport and never noticed this issue..is this something that would have been there, or is it specific to a VDSL connection?

I think its more specific to the VDSL connection/setup (the setup will be same for 8800/8900 anyway to truly isolate the IGMP/multicasting packets)

Hi again,

I have gone through the steps however when I rebooted the router it wouldn't connect to the ip channels. Once I removed the rule bt sport came back up without an issue.

Any ideas as to why?

Try re-applying steps 9-12, also make sure you have 'Bridged WAN Interface' etc setup also

Also attached is config file I made (This is for the Bipac 8800NL 2.32e ONLY for VDSL/FTTC), with everything setup, you might need to change WAN PPPOE username and password to get online, and obviously change the wifi password. (as this config was built off default settings)

With this config, your BT Vision box should connect to PORT 4
