Router 7800N requested disconnection/reconnection, why?

Router is running 1.06h

I noticed a bit of a speed drop today so checked the router and noticed the uptime for the connection was just over 5 hours.

My ISP has a section in their portal that will indicate the reason for disconnection (usually either port error or user request) and it shows the last session was 8 days long (I'd rebooted the router to try and obtain a higher sync about 8 days ago) and that the reason for disconnection at around 9.10 a.m. this morning was user request.

Now I was asleep at that time so was wondering whether the router software can request this sometimes and under what conditions would it do so as I can't find anything in the system log.

I am the only person in the household that manages the router, I have two wireless access points connected wirelessly (using WPA2 encryption with a 63 character passphrase) and a PC linked via ethernet directly to the router.

Hi

I expect your ISP just didn't receive a notification of disconnection, I imagine these notifications are just sent to the ISP without ever waiting for an acknowledgement, so they can just fall into a black hole if there is packet loss somewhere.

The modem will disconnect when an event on the line such as noise is so bad that it can longer hear the signal, the same for the other end. ADSL isn't designed to be a guaranteed fault free service, the opposite is true in that it is designed to push old telephone cable to it's physical limits and can only do this by accepting the line will have to drop and retrain for changing conditions, and even when operating runs with a level of acceptable bit errors.

Sometimes the line doesn't drop but the network does, so you still have a connection to the exchange however your session is lost (a bit like a train running empty), and it is reporting the 5 hours from the point it managed to log you back in onto the network.

Regards

Phil

I get that happen sometimes, same router, and I think same ISP.

I always put it down to the session being dropped at the exchange, possibly when engineers are doing maintenance.
