7800N - No Wireless output

Having posted earlier that my 3100SN had packed up, I had a good idea and got my old 7800N out of the loft.

I set it up as a wireless AP only to find that wireless isn't working!

If I enable/disable wireless in the UI, the wireless light comes on for about 5 to 10 seconds and goes out.

no wireless is picked up by my iPad.

it's worked flawlessly for years!

thoughts anyone?

Just a quick update.

the on/off button at the rear is enabling/disabling.

all I'm getting is a brief flash from the LED every 20 seconds or so.

even when the LED stays on for up to 10 seconds there is no actual signal showing

Can you post a copy of your system log once the wireless has failed to output a signal??

From looking at the system log the 7800N is suffering from a wireless failure

You can attempt to repair the device yourself below are the steps (might be a worth a try)

1. Turn off the device, and disconnect the power cable, lan cables, DSL cable and antennas
2. Flip the device over, and remove the four rubber feet.
3. Unscrew the four screws under the rubber feet
4. Take the top off
5. You will see the wireless card, with three antenna connections in the middle of the PCB board
6. Clean off the glue off the antenna connections and wireless card (three) and the glue off the side clips (left and right of the card) you can also unclip the card from the board, if needed. (try not to damage any components on the wireless card when cleaning)
7. Reinsert the card if needed once cleaned carefully
8. Put the top back on
9. Screw the 4 screws back into place
10. Put the rubber feet back over the screws
11. Plug up all connections, and turn the device on, and monitor the wireless connection.

Sadly not to be. I gave a good clean with electrical cleaner but the logs say the same.

Still it’s had a good innings. It was newly on the market when I bought it and up until yesterday never missed a beat.
