Bipac 6300NXL - pppd config error - some help?

Post by vjchandra » Mon Aug 10, 2020 10:49 am

Hello all,

I recently purchased a BIPAC 6300NXL from ebay to use as 3G connected network router and picked up a generic 4g dongle for it. So far so good. The Dongle is being recognised by the router (supported chipset) but i'm having a tough time getting it to connect. I wonder if there is some config I'm missig somewhere so thought I'd ask those who may have more experience for help before i try to tweak more settings.

The screenshots attached are as follows:
billion config - the configuration on the device.
4gmodem - the config on the 4gmodem - which connects fine.

the log - i can't attach txt files for some reason so pasting the log here. (without network connectivity the timestamp reverts to December for some reason :-))

Apologies - was away on work so could not respond. the Firmware is 1.02b.rc5.dy17.

I'm going to try with a different SIM that I've picked up. Lets see if that works any better.

I'll check with our engineers if there is a newer firmware.

Thanks. I upgraded to the 227 version from teh billion site. Now I'm able to connect using an EE sim. So far so good although it's only connecting at 3G instead of 4G speeds. By that i mean the dongle connects only at 3G (as per it's readout) when in the router but connects at 4g when on a PC. I'm not sure if the ppd/Linux software internally is somehow throttling the speed :-)

But for now - it's working to give me internet albeit at 3G. So for others - the Matrix Tele 4G dongle does work with the unit. Qualcomm 6600 chipset.

is there any way i can read the ppd daemon stats to find out what speed it's connecting at?

thanks
Vijay

I don't think so as this is normally locked down by our engineers

Thank you @billion_fan. The latest version you sent me looks much better and I fixed my connection issues. Just a UX issue that's not a problem per-se just confusing as heck :-) The Status screen shows me 3G-1 is disconnected while the status for the 3G-1 shows me it's all connected. i'm not sure what that means but the network works and slow as it is - i'm online so life is good so far.

I'm going to check out the Email notifications for WAN change - i'm assuming that will notify me whenever the 3G phone disconnects and reconnects. If that works - then i may not need the DynDNS setup.

Vijay
