I feel a bit stupid, because I hear nothing but great reports about how easy the 7800n is to set up. However, I can't seem to do it.
Basically, ethernet cable plugged into my laptop, then plugged into one of the router's ethernet ports. Cable plugged into the splitter on my phone line, and into the ADSL port on my router. Router powered up, laptop powered up, quickstart started, username and password entered, the router reboots, and then I get a big FAIL!
The following message: "WAN port setting is not successful, you can try this procedure again."
I've noticed similar error reports when searching on the internet, but usually with an authentication error message on the end of it. I get no such authentication error message (I've checked and rechecked the username and password, and that's not the problem).
Any ideas?

Check the status page of the router, here it should state why the router can not connect? (http://192.168.1.254)
May I ask who you ISP is ?
What colour is the internet light?

The internet light is unlit, and on the status page, it just reads "Connecting" constantly. ISP is Karoo.

Re: Can't connect via Quickstart
Connect just a corded phone to the master socket on its own, dial 1 and listen for any noise before the auto voice kicks in. Noise on a phone line can affect broadband.
If it's all quiet, then plug the router into the master socket without the phone, factory reset and try again.
Cordless phones (if you are using one) plugged into the same socket as the router are known to cause problems, because of interference given off from the base unit.
Just my bit.

Okay, tried it with a different phone, and the line's fine. Unplugged all phones completely, and just connected the router and tried again. Still no joy. Utterly baffling. I'm on the verge of packing it back up in the box and sending it back.

I think I'd be sending it back as well, just hoping the replacement didn't do the same.

If you are using Karoo then the WAN settings are different.
I have attached a screen shot of the settings you should use.
