Downloaded latest firmware for 8800nl and waited 20 mins for flash update to finish. Easy sign on process started input user name and password for isp (zen) which worked just fine on original firmware but it refuses to connect to the internet saying wan setting failed. Using fttc settings over pppoe but no joy.
Reset router to factory settings but same problem with wan settings failing
Any help please .

Re: Auto config not working
If you can access the Zen Forums & search for "Billion 8800 NL" or "8800NL" sans quotes, you should find all of the information that you need.
This is what I did for Plusnet, I've suitably redacted it to delete the plusnet stuff, which you may find confusing, but I would have thought that the principal would be the same. The one thing I wouldn't have done is installed what is technically a beta firmware, I prefer to wait for the official release. Anyway, the list below is how I did my router.
In the QUICK START menu:
WAN Interface ( WAN > Wireless )
Main Port = DSL
Layer 2 Interface = PTM (VDSL)
Type = PPPoE
Username = *********@*******.***** (******** = your username that you login in with) , You'll enter this on the next screen IIRC.
WAN IP Address = Obtain an IP Address Automatically
Click Continue.
WAN Interface ( WAN > Wireless ) 2nd Screen.
WAN Service.
Type = PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
Username = *********@*********.****** (******** = your username that you login in with)
Password = The one you login with.
Service Name = ISP NAME (Can be blank)
Authentication Method = AUTO
IPv4 Address = Static (UNCHECKED, unless you have a static IP)
IP Address = Will be blanked out unless above is checked in which case enter your IP address.
IPv6 for this service = Enable (UNCHECKED)
MTU = 1492 (May need to alter this depending on your ISP, but should do itself)
Click Continue & WAIT for about 15-20 seconds, if you've done it all correctly it will connect.

Re: Auto config not working
basically everything you listed there I followed around 10 times this afternoon and no joy at all. I followed all the steps several times and the same outcome every time.
This is the firmware I was using BiPAC 8800NL 2.32d.dh14 firmware. Is this still a beta version?

Had a quick read of the zen forums and it does sound like a similar problem but the forum member who had and solved the problem never posted how to do so

On the WAN page double check to make sure your '802.1P Priority' is set to 0 and the 802.1Q VLAN ID is set to 101soullessboar wrote:Had a quick read of the zen forums and it does sound like a similar problem but the forum member who had and solved the problem never posted how to do so
If it still fails click on 'Status >> WAN' and see what is listed under your PTM WAN interface
