Hi
Does anyone know how to enable the firewall on the 7800N? I can't tell if it's enabled or not and the manual is not very helpful in this respect.
Thanks
Sally

Re: How do I enable the firewall?
The route I took was Advanced >> Config >> Firewall >>Intrusion Detection
Ticked the Enable radio button and that for Log.
The results I got for that are in viewtopic.php?f=9&t=307 but when I later checked and cleared the log, I now only have one entry for today at 11.20am so perhaps I've done something wrong.
I'll be keeping an eye on your thread for more knowledgeable advice which will no doubt be forth coming (?)

That's what I did as well.Tomken wrote:The route I took was Advanced >> Config >> Firewall >>Intrusion Detection

I also enabled the "Block WAN Ping" features.
The other thing to do is the Wireless MAC filtering , allowing only those you want to have access , in my case iPhones , iPads & the grandchildren's DSIs.

Re: How do I enable the firewall?
What does the Block WAN Ping do and will the MAC Filtering cause the printer any problems even though I've given mine a static IP.
There's only my younger son who hooks his iphone up to my connection when he pops down and when I occasionally check the DHCP Table, I've never seen any strangers on it.
Had a look at the Firewall log earlier today and in addition to the illegal HackAttacks, started getting TCP Syn Flooding. Had to Google that one
If all this activity has been going on, would I have noticed anything untoward prior to activating the Firewall ?

Re: How do I enable the firewall?
The "Block WAN Ping" setting prevents any response to an internet ping where someone/thing is trying to find an active IP Address to launch an attack.
Wireless MAC filtering is just another added layer of security to prevent anyone accessing your network over the airwaves. I've set all my wireless devices up here so only those are allowed connection.

Thanks tinytim, I've enabled the Block WAN Ping but will leave the MAC Filtering for now.
