Large numbers of FEC errors?

Post by PLanPLan »

When I use my HG612 for my FTTC connection I get around 25-30 FEC(RS Correctable Errors)/minute on my downstream, when I use the 8800NL I get 25,000/minute, any idea why? I've tried the most recent firmware which didn't really change anything. My 8800NL was an Amazon open box warehouse offer - do you think it might be faulty?

Doesn't seem to make any difference unfortunately. :(

EDIT:

Should really add to my first post, 25,000 is the high end - I think I've managed to get the FEC errors down to around 4,000/min - but that is still significantly higher than the HG612.

The HG612 reports errors wrongly in the GUI. If you check the errors by telnet you'll see the correct values. Almost certainly there will be similarly large numbers of FECs with the HG612.

I'm aware the HG612 web interface is inaccurate, I've taken my data from telnet scraping by DSLStats/MyDSLWebStats - for both the HG612 and 8800NL.
