8800NL problem

8800NL problem
Hi,
I'm new to all this router lark so forgive my ignorance if I'm missing something obvious.
I purchased an 8800NL to replace my broken Technicolor tg582n for Plusnet fibre and have set it up in VDSL mode replacing the BT open reach modem too. Installation went smoothly and my speed is up from 50/9 to 60/10 using an ethernet cable but I'm having to restart the 8800NL each day as a problem with the connection becoming intermittent is occurring.
I will boot the PC up and immediately opening my browser the pages are slow to open, struggles to load some at all and even has problems connecting to the router management. Usually a reboot of the router fixes the issue but today the problem has been very persistent requiring multiple reboots before becoming usable.
Looking at the diagnostics page it fails to ping the default gateway every time which I find strange as a manual test through command prompt works fine when the connection is stable. When the problem occurs I have a 50% success rate.
I've been using the 8800NL for 5 days now on 2.32e firmware, I'm contemplating returning it and finding a different router as this is my last shot at information as I can't find any information regarding this issue anywhere else.

Try loading the attached firmware, once downgraded, reset the unit back to factory default settings and manually reconfigure the device and monitor the issue, if it persists then you might have to return the router,.SpudFella wrote:Hi,

Thanks for the help I've downgraded the firmware which went smoothly but it took me multiple attempts to get the setup to actually work and get myself back online.billion_fan wrote:

I wouldn't worry about the ping gateway feature, it also fails on my test unit, and looking into the 'help' section it states "Indicates that the DSL modem was unable to communicate with the first entry point on the network. It may not have an effect on your Internet connectivity. Therefore if this test fails but you are still able to access the Internet, there is no need to troubleshoot this issue"
So you should be fine

Everything worked great yesterday with no reboots but alas today I'm back to square one.

Are you sure it's the 8800nl and not the connection, have you done a speed test using http://speedtest.btwholesale.com and then diagnostics to find your ip profile and line speed settings then checked plusnet for your profile to see if they match ,
I am using this router and have no trouble at all and I am on plusnet 40/2 fibre

The problem seems to be between the router and my PC itself. Wireless connection is fine for other devices but when I boot the desktop up which is connected directly through ethernet to the router, the connection is unstable and ping tests turn up a 25-50% failure rate.
I'm a bit clueless as to what is wrong and have no idea if there is any settings I have to change to prevent this. I've tried using different cables and looking at the settings in the router is like reading a foreign language.

Have you checked if there are any updated drivers for your ethernet device on your pc, apart from adding your username and password the router should work out of the box , I only added these and have made no other changes
