Got an 8800AXL a few months back for my Sky fibre network.
I'm not tech savvy but got it all up and running just fine and it was stable the whole time (bit disappointed with wireless range but there you go)...
Its used wirelessly for some devices, but I ran a cat 6 cable from a LAN port up through my loft and across into my study, into a switch then into my main PC and my QNAP server. Yesterday had all sorts of problems with the server and my main PC... no internet access, no connection to router etc. After a bit of physical fiddling it came back, but despite several reboots, the router refused to serve out the usual static IP to my QNAP. Not a huge problem.
Tonight, all the problems came back, except I could still get internet access. The QNAP is still not getting a static IP from the router, and despite having net access, I couldn't bring up the routers admin page. Another reboot and back to normal. This time I have the QNAP fixing its own IP...
The big question is, is the router on the way out after a couple of nights of erratic behaviour?
Is the cat6 cable from it suspect? would a cat 6 cable be affected in the loft by the recent cold weather (sorry if thats daft)?
Do I need to contact billion and get the router replaced?

I assume you setup a static IP lease for the QNAP device (found on the Configuration >> LAN' in the centre of the page is a 'Static IP Lease List' option) also make sure the 'LAN side firewall' is not ticked on this page
Also make sure you are on the latest firmware 2.32e,

LAN led is fine, with 2.32e firmware.
right now, the router is refusing new connections (my ipad won't connect to the wifi network) despite my son's iphone and wife's ipad working fine.
From a wired connection I am getting full internet access, but can't now reach the router's own webpage which is just timing out.
Will need to reset the router *again*... this erratic behaviour is now occurring every night. Time to send back to Billion for a replacement I think.

I need to check the system log to see what is happening, as the only thing I can think of is the there must be some kind of conflict that limiting your access, also have you checked to make sure the LAN side firewall is not enabled (if this feature is enabled for the default DHCP server this will block you from accessing the web gui)
Regarding your ipad have you tried to connect to the 5ghz network (assuming you were trying to connect to 2.4ghz network)

Sorry for not getting back, had 2 weeks holiday...
Anyway, came back to router being completely unconnectable via wireless. Restarted router and ok for 24 hours, but now intermittent wireless connection problems, even in the same room and using either 2g or 5g.
The router seems basically unreliable now and I am going to return it to the manufacturer for a replacement.
It is still not handing out fixed IP's properly as it used to.
I might have one last throw of the dice and do a factory reset and maybe roll back the firmware as you suggest.
