My Billion 7800DXL router is uber reliable, by far and away the best I have ever owned (or reviewed, I am an Amazon UK Vine reviewer). It's wireless is now getting a bit dated and slow, AC based wireless is massively quicker. I get quite a few routers to review, and they all destroy my trusty Billion in wireless speeds, but none of them are a patch on the Billion's stability and flexibility.
So my question to 8800AXL users, any of you come from a 7800DXL and does the 8800AXL offer similar levels of long-term stability?
My only small gripe is that there is no VPN functionality, which for a SOHO router is quite a big thing.

Re: Billion 8800AXL
having come from the 7800dx to the 8800axl there are a few oddities but I can say Its just as stable although the wifi seems slightly weaker in terms of range its superb for speed but I switched because my fibre modem died and it was cheaper than a standard modem (got on a deal price through amazon) I have no idea if its better in terms of overall performance but certainly it does what I need it to (and I never needed vpn) on my 80/20 connection

Re: Billion 8800AXL
a problem with ipv6 flag states not being persistent regardless if its in stateless state full or disabled setup on the router, I suspect the problem is firmware based and its been reported.
if you use multicast and have more than one interface group you get logfile spam like this
it doesn't seem to do anything other than clog up the log entries though.
otherwise its setup is basically the same as the 7800dx which makes swapping over extreamly simple
oh as for fibre keep your old router it will work fine with the bt modem which makes it an excellent backup solution, just have to change the ppp interface settings but I wouldn't use that setup out of choice since bt equipment likes to phone home for update checks etc and it always crashes the line when it does this ......

Re: Billion 8800AXL
So far all going great. I have quite a big IP reservation list, so I was thankful that the 8800 config file was very similar to the 7800 config file, which meant I could merge my original list using Beyond Compare.
Meant I was up and running with an identical setup as before very quickly.
