Date and Time

Post by gatekeeper »

I've accessed my 8800NL's user interface many times since I first got the device and it's only recently that I noticed the date/time entry in Status > Device Information > Date/Time is completely out of kilter. It seems to be showing a random date and time, in the year 1970. What functional purpose does the date and time have, for using a router such as this, and how do I configure the 8800 to make it show the correct, present date and time?

What settings do you have here:

And try clicking the sync button on the device information page:

1st Other 192.43.244.18
2nd Other (blank)
3rd None (blank)
4th None (blank)
5th None (blank)

I think I must have somehow deleted the majority of these in a fit of 'configuration frenzy' when I first got the 8800.

And, oh crikey, there's a Sync button next to the stated date and time! Clearly, I couldn't see the wood for the trees. Must be my age or somethin'.

Presumably, I'll need to use your image, Gazaai, to copy into my server boxes the 2nd, 3rd and 4th IP addresses? And then I guess if I press Sync, the router will fetch the time from one of the addresses? I assume that all five IPs are internationally-agreed alternative time sources and that when you press Sync the router fetches the date and time from one of them, starting at the first.

What should be in the second column? Should they be set to 'Other' or 'None', or instead to a named URL (from the dropdown)?

Well the image I posted is untouched from default. So all the IPs are default values, I would just leave them at Other as that is default and works for me.

I inserted the IPs and used 'Others' and found that when I then went back to Status > Device Information > Date/Time the date and time were already corrected and were now 'spot on'. It seems that my having made this minor change and pressed Apply, on the Internet Time page, it's circumvented the need to press Sync, on the Device Information page.

I'll keep an eye on the date and time over the next few days, to check that all is now well with it. Many thanks for your help, GaZaai. At the very least, you've provided me with the default IPs, which had been lost.
