7800n causes 3100sn to reboot every 24hrs

Post by oxygendebt »

I have a 3100SN (192.168.1.3, firmware 1.06k-c) wireless linked by WDS to my 7800N (192.168.1.1, firmware 1.06g).

Both have the same SSID and wifi devices move seamlessly between the two. In short, it works as it should.

I have one small niggle - the 3100SN 'system up time' resets every 24 hrs (i.e. system up time always returns to zero when it reaches 23:59), and I can't find or think of any DHCP/LAN setting on either device which appears to drive this.

All my wifi and wired network devices (inc the 3100SN) are assigned a fixed host IP by the 7800N, in the range 192.168.1.2->30.

The DHCP on the 7800N is enabled but the range is very limited: 192.168.1.90->99, and the lease time is set to 1440 hrs.

For a while I was also running a Draytek AP using exactly the same WDS settings on the 7800N; this would remain up for weeks and weeks while the 3100SN rebooted daily.

Can anyone suggest anything?

thanks

Try the attached firmware for the 3100SN. This firmware has a improved wireless driver.

You will need a wired connection to the 3100SN, and you will also need to set a static IP to your LAN card, in the same range eg 192.168.1.253 is 3100sn so you can set your IP address to 192.168.1.200

Do not upgrade the firmware via wireless, as when the firmware upgrade proccess starts the wifi turns off and your unit will not be upgraded.

Thanks for the firmware. It seems to have improved the wireless range of the 3100SN, but hasn't stopped the reboot (lease?) cycling every 24 hours.

Anyone?

Dont worry I'm on the case :D

Update

I am currently talking to our engineers about this issue.

I will post a update once I have something solid.

Thanks

OK - many thanks. I will look forward to a result. The 3100SN works very well, I just don't understand why it can't stay up for >24 hrs.

I am happy to PM you my config files etc.

From our conversation with our engineers it is only the system up time that is resetting to back to 0 after 24 hours.

They are now modifying the firmware so the system up time should surpass 24 hours.

Once I have the firmware and have tested it for over 24 hours I will update you.

Thanks

Have you tested this firmware update for the 3100SN yet? I'd like to try it, please.

Yes, I am still testing the firmware, just to be sure.

If all goes well I will release the firmware to you on Monday.
