What is the max download speed for the 8900AX-2400

I may be in the fortunate position of moving to a place that has FTTP speeds up to 300 Mbps rather than the FTTC 80Mbps ( BT speeds anyway).

My query is what download speed does the 8900 support ( 2400 or 1600) as it seems to have a Gigabit Ethernet WAN which to me means up to 1000Mbps speed but reading the 8900-2400 manual I downloaded from the UK site on page 1 under the heading Very High-speed Connectivity for Internet Access it states " The BiPAC 8900AX(L)-2400 complies with VDSL2 and ADSL2+ worldwide standards and it can
support the downlink data rate of up to 100Mbps and uplink data rate of up to 50Mbps in VDSL2 "

So what is the definitive answer and have I misunderstood the specs as the manual under the "introduction to your router" mentions Gigabit Ethernet WAN port ( which is the paragraph before the connectivity heading )

Hope this helps, remember the Ethernet port is totally different to the VDSL 2 WAN.

Ethernet will be the local network connectivity speed between devices on your local network not internet.

The VDSL D/L speed will be approx 300/8= 37.5mbs (well within the 100mbs range). When it talks about Ethernet WAN, you are usually using the 8900 in router only mode so you are connecting an external modem to it, so the local link is 1GBs.

On this link for a FTTP connection you will be provided with a modem (installation may be differ depending on the ISP), which you then connect to a router of your choice or one that is provided by your ISP, using the WAN/EWAN port.

Thanks for that - so basically any Billion VDSL 2 router/ modem or router would cope with the 300Mbps so long as there is a spare Gigabit switch port for my local device ( in addition to the the WAN)?

gmorgan has confused me a bit (unintentional pun ) as I thought megabytes were MBps and megabits were Mbps - all the Billion bumpf refers to 100Mbps which is megabits not bytes ie the division by 8 doesn't apply or should the bumpf actually read 100MBps. Apologies for being a bit pedantic

It's just a crude way to work out your average speed per sec is to divide by 8, I'm just lazy with my typing in regards to mbs...

gmorgan - the thing I was trying to point out is that the user manual on page 1 states "it can
support the downlink data rate of up to 100Mbps and uplink data rate of up to 50Mbps in VDSL2" ie it is quoting a megabit rate not megabytes and so is less than the 300Mbps top rate from BT unless the manual should read 100MBps.

If you are using the EWAN port you should be fine. (as the EWAN port is gigabit and also the four other ports are gigabit)
