Help, lowering SNR leads to no increase in download speed

Post by BabaIkram »

Hello, I am a new member who just purchased Billion 7800N with the hope of gaining a respectable download speed.

My initial stats yesterday before installing the Billion were:

ADSL

ADSL Firmware Version: FwVer:3.11.2.175_TC3086 HwVer:T14.F7_6.0

Line State: Showtime

Modulation :ADSL2 PLUS

Annex Mode : ANNEX_A

Downstream Upstream

SNR Margin : 9.0. 15.8db

Line Attenuation: 58.5. 36.6db

Data Rate: 1536. 605kbps

Max Rate: 3732. 945 kbps

POWER: 14.7. 6.3dbm

CRC: 0 0

During this time, I have carried out the master phone socket test without any difference, nevertheless, I moved my ADSl line to the master phone socket, installed an interstitial plate into the socket and use two microfilter in a 'daisy chain' to separate the phone and modem connection to no avail, I even tried TP link modem and wireless routers (8040T and WR1080ND). All this to no avail. From the above stats and my broaband speed test website I should be able to get to a maximum of 4MBps download speed but I have never got up to 1.6Mbps.

Sorry all, this post should have been under BiPAC 7800 series. I guess it does not matter much. But I would not mind if the forum moderator could help move it to under BiPAC 7800 series

Well I can announce that Billion 7800N has helped increased my downstream speed from 2 Mbps to 3Mbps, this is a big deal for me as I was getting 1.4Mbps before and I was told the maximum for my area is about. 2.5 to 3 Mbps.

The download stream is almost reaching 4Mbps (3886Kbps) . The quoted maximum achievable has been between 3500kbps and 4000kbps. Cheers

How did you finally do it, I'm ready to invest in a billion device if I can increase my dire 1.9 speeds?

@ Juice370

Usually it's just a case of enabling PhyR (advanced > configuration > WAN > ADSL mode), then enabling the hidden SNR tweak (http://192.168.1.254/snr.cgi)

There are numerous forum posts and guides online that you can follow for details of what you should enter there - I think I followed this one http://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/billion-7800n#
