Bipac 8800NL R2 latest firmware

Post by r2tele »

Hi. I have joined the forum today. Thanks for all of the interesting topics raised. I have bought the 8800nlr2 on 7th June and set it to WAN: ADSL with SNR tweaks on a very long line - 5.6km. No dropouts on SNR at -4.5dB from originally -15.1dB. Now through speed is 2.33Mb from 1.55Mb. Best ever speed and no buffering on BBC iplayer.
I have just noticed this evening that the firmware has been upgraded in esupport. There is no reason given for the update. The manual suggests that wireless beam technology can be turned on but existing configure GUI does not show it. I'm hoping that the new firmware will address this.
Does anyone know what the new firmware is for?
Is there any way to register for an email alert for future updates?

The new firmware addresses issues with "unable to connect to the web gui ---- ( XBOXONE and APPLE-TV ) issue” the new firmware fixes the issue.

Wireless beam forming is normally only used on the AC band, as the 8800NLR2 does not have AC wireless, the feature cannot be implemented.

We don't have email alert system for future updates, its best to check downloads sections on the UK website for updates/releases.

Thank you for the quick reply.
The manual for the Bipac 8800NL R2 does refer to it as 300 Mbs 2400 N with Beam technology.
I accept your answer for the Beam technology is not available. If I make the wireless bandwidth 20/40 Mhz should I achieve a faster through rate than the 60 - 75Mb I am having by the the router with an Apple iphone 6 ?
I am very happy with this router/modem as my downloads are the fastest they have ever been!
Thank you Billion.

20mhz = 150mbps
20/40mhz = 300mbps

Quick question on the firmware...

I read that the 8800 NL and the 8800 NL R2 have the same internals, yet this the R2 has much "newer" firmware? can you use this on the non-r2 aswell or?

8800 NL CPU = BCM 63168

8800NL R2 is BCM 63381

So maybe different firmware

The 8800NL R2 operates off a different OS, but looks identical, it also uses a different DMT code/firmware
