Guest WLAN

Post by ninkynonk »

I think I know the answer to this question, but.

Is there a way on the 7800 a way to enable a second SSID to give 'Guest' wireless LAN access?

If not, does anyone know if this is a feature to be included in future firmware updates.

A guest WLAN is a great feature

Hi

Yes missing this as well. It is odd how the strap line on the interface says "Powering communications with security", yet one of the most obvious security features of a guest Wi-Fi network to sand box guests from the local network isn't provided. There isn't even the option of isolating the primary Wi-Fi from the local network.

I'd really like this feature - I've already posted about it. Really handy for guests who you don't really want on the LAN.

COME ON BILLION - LISTEN TO YOUR USERS, can you add it to a future firmware ?

I'm probably totally wrong here, but this doesn't strike me as something that can simply be added with a firmware update... Surely you'd need specific hardware in the box that can handle two SSIDs at the same time?...

+1 to the requests for this feature....

...however, sounds like the available storage/space for firmware is getting tight, as in an earlier release the email logs/alerts feature was removed in order to make way for IPv6 code, etc.... So may not be the space for the code to implement this feature - would love to see it, but not holding my breath....

I'd like to do this too. Is this possible by setting up two vlan networks (one single ethernet port for guests and the rest for no guests) then attaching a second router to the ethernet port allocated to the guests vlan which would provide wireless access for the guests?

Is the above possible? if so how would I configure the vlans? thanks

Hi

I think we can enable Wi-Fi isolation already, I have not yet tried it. This means you can let someone connect to your Wi-Fi point but they are completely isolated from your network for security and safety.

The way to do this is save the configuration file, open it in Notepad, find the entry apIsolation="off" , change it to "on", save the file and restore that to the Billion.

It's a bit of a pain but might be useful to someone.
