Router Link Down!

Post by leckytech »

I RMA'ed my last 7800N back to Amazon as the wireless got messed up after 1.06g. After setting up my new 7800N I keep losing the ADSL connection every hour or two. This is the system log

It seems your SNR upstream is a bit low, I would suggest contacting your ISP and ask them to set your SNR upstream to 6db.

If you still experience drops out, ask your ISP to higher your downstream SNR to 6db also.

Disabling PhyR and a router reboot should bring the SNRMs back up naturally and I've found them to be better after switching the router off overnight.

I tried Phyr and found it seemed to keep the SNRM low and as the base line SNR increases, perhaps due to local interference then this would cause the disconnects because the router wouldn't be able to hear the signal, which was what I was getting on a Downstream 50dB Attenuation and so disabled it.

My downstream SNRM was dropping down to 0.4dB and was hitty missy whether it stayed connected or not, but I certainly got some browser lag when it dropped that low when it held.

My SNRM both down and up can still run low, but no where near what they once were also, SRA only needs to be enabled if your ISP uses that as their Dynamic Line Management (DLM).

If you are in the UK, then the recent bad weather can also play havoc with broadband connections and this fault may resolve itself, but disable PhyR and SRA (if applicable) and see if there is any improvement.

With a Downstream Atten of 56dB you may find using just G.Dmt for a while should also give you some stability, but if your connection was previously stable on ADSL2+ then just try it with those two disabled and if it continues to disconnect, then have your ISP run a line check.

Thank you,
I'll give that a try ie disabling Phyr etc. strange though I never had an issue with the previous router holding onto a snr of around 1.4 and was syncing over 4mbs

Will update when I get a chance

Cheers

You could try changing channels on the off chance that it's down to local interference, but for it to disconnect as often as that had it been stable beforehand, then I would suspect a line fault.

Download http://www.metageek.net/products/inssid ... 3Dinssider so you can see who else is around you and on what channels.

You don't want to be sharing channels with anyone and while 1,6 and 11 can't be overlapped by the others, they can be popular choices of others.

If they are in use, then try for one at least three away from anyone else that will give you a RSSI of about -50dB or less (less than 50).

In my area those are in use but I manage on channel 4, which gives me a RSSI of -50 to -51 and while of late, browsing has been a bit laggy, there may be other factors with major refurbishment works going on.......

Look forward to your update.

I know all that my friend and have tried many channels .......... 13 being the obvious choice as very few other local users use it...but after 1,06g things got messed up where local users couldn't connect to any channel above 9,,,not going down that route again as after billion where do i go? Ill see how removing phyr goes and take it from there,,

As an aside I contacted O2 with regard to frequent disconnects and was asked to put back in my o2 router so they can have a look at my setup,,,WTF! Tried to explain that this router is normallym the mutts nuts and as its a new one you need to look at the line not the router, even threatened to leave after many years and they said whatever!

I always make sure im not tied into ISP contracts for exactly this reason, waiting on BT infinity and o2 can go f*** themselves,,,,

What a load of Bankers !

Can't believe they wouldn't do a line test, it's normally reboot the router (a bit like the old Ctrl+Alt+Delete stock reply used to be) and after that, they're goosed (for want of a better word :) ).

Just shows you what a load of arrogant Bs they are when they aren't even bothered about retaining your custom, even TalkTalk will try to help (even though they have a script to go through, you can sometimes change their mindset) and retain your custom.

Think BT only do 18 month contracts on their Infinity, but best of luck and will check back to see how you get on.

I think billion_fan could give you a link to revert to 1.06fdc or whatever it was, if the new one is set to 1.06g.
