The 7800 can't match the 7700 for speed

Post by Brian49 »

I have two Billion routers, the 7700N and the 7800. After experimenting with them, I find that the absolute maximum downstream connection speed I can get with the 7700N is 0.5 Mbps higher than with the 7800, at 22.1 Mbps against 21.6 Mbps. In each case I have tweaked the SNR down as far as it will go, and kept all other settings the same between the two. Can anyone suggest a reason for this difference, please? I would have expected it to be the other way round. Many thanks.

Thanks for responding.

The default SNR, set by my ISP, is 3dB (I'm on a very good line, 1 km from the exchange). I can tweak the 7700N down to 50% of the default, and the 7800 down to 40%, whilst maintaining a stable connection. If I set them both at 50%, the 7700N outperforms the 7800 by 0.9 Mbps downstream connection speed.
