I have had a search about the wireless networks and have seen that some people have 2.4ghz and 5ghz wireless networks on their routers. My 8800NL only has 2.4ghz available. I am trying to get rid of the BT supplied Smart Hub and am currently using my old SSE supplied Technicolor, but would prefer to put my 8800NL back in service due to the small footprint. The stumbling block is no 5ghz. I am running 2.32d.dh14, would upgrading firmware give me the other channel?
Thanks
Mark

Re: 8800NL 5ghz compatible?
I'm running version 2.50a.d13 on my 8800NL R2 which is what came installed (only had it a few months)
and it only has the option for 2.4ghz... no 5ghz
A dual band access point would be easy to set up giving you both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.
I am in fact just looking myself to improve the wifi here but have dismissed 5ghz due to the poor range.
at the moment I'm considering a 802.11n 450Mbps access point which is of course 2.4ghz and turning off the 8800NL wifi as its not the best.
I can then move the access point to a more central position in the house....
That's the plan anyway

Re: 8800NL 5ghz compatible?
The 8800NL does not have the hardware to output on the 5ghz band, this is not a software limitation, its a hardware limitation.Marksfish wrote:I have had a search about the wireless networks and have seen that some people have 2.4ghz and 5ghz wireless networks on their routers. Thanks for the responses, not what I was hoping to hear, but there you go.

If you want 5ghz channel, then upgrade to either the 8800AXL or the newer 8900AX series. The 8800NL has never had 5ghz.
