Re: WIFI settings - main and guest mode (8800NL 1st gen)
I have found a solution.
1. Remove the current Interface Group (the guest wifi network one)
2. Edit your 'ATM WAN' interface and change the 'Type' over to PPPOE ( VPI/VCI = 0/38, Encapsulation Mode = LLC/SNAP)
3. Once reconnected, setup another Interface Group for your guest network, this time under 'Available WAN Interfaces' you will see your new PPPOE ATM interface, select it by clicking on it and then click on the arrow pointing left so it should now be listed under 'Grouped WAN Interfaces'
4. Do the same for your guest network below, as normal so your guest wifi network should be listed under 'Grouped LAN Interfaces', also enter a Group Name.
5. Click on 'Apply'
6. Double check your QOS rule to make sure its still in place and set correctly.
7. Connect to the guest network and run a speed test, you should now have guest wifi download speeds capped

is this applicable to ADSL over PPPoA though?

( for example if you had a modem only, and wanted to connect a router to it, using the EWAN it has to support PPPoE to pass authentication)chenks wrote:does it? that's news to me.
As Sky don't allow you to use a third party modem or router, they only support PPPoA, where as with other ISP's you can use any modem/router and use either PPPoE or PPPoA
My test was with Zen ISP ADSL, a while ago we had a plusnet line and I used to use PPPoE with that also and it worked,

yes but i don't have a separate modem though, i just use the Billion 8880.
i'm with plusnet, and all support from them refer to PPPoA for ADSL.

Yes I know that, I was just using this as a example of why ISP's support both PPPoA and PPPoE (to give you flexibility)chenks wrote:yes but i don't have a separate modem though, i just use the Billion 8880.

PPPoE should work fine with Plusnet

just had a problem i needed to resolve before this.
came home to find the billion 8800 had factory restored itself at some point during the day.
not sure, why.
luckily i had the backup file i sent the other day to restore from.
so will not need to apply those isolation changes again.
