WIFI settings - main and guest mode (8800NL 1st gen)

i'm with plusnet, so i may try the PPPoE option and see what happens.

ok, some progress.
now using PPPoE connection.
set up interface grouping again, and QoS rule applied.

main WiFi gets full bandwidth, guest WiFi gets throttled bandwidth



however...... when connected to the guest WiFi, i can still access the router admin page on 192.168.1.254, which should not be permitted.
some isolation does seem to be working though, as i can't connect to other devices on the 192.168.1.x network, but the router admin page can be connected to.

any ideas why?

You need to enable the 'LAN side firewall' for your guest group

1. Login to router
2. Click on 'Configuration >> LAN'
3. Change the 'Group Name' to your guest network group (this set is very important)
4. Enable the 'LAN side firewall'
5. Click on 'Apply'

That should stop clients that are connected to the guest network from connecting to the routers web gui.

As all VDSL providers use PPPoE or IPoE (within the UK), you create the new WAN interface, (PTM with the 802.1P Priority set to 0 and the 802.1Q VLAN ID set to 101) and then delete the current Interface Group, add a new one, with the PPPoE or IPoE tagged to the 'Grouped WAN Interfaces' and your guest network tagged to the Grouped LAN Interfaces

Unfortunately not, its either isolated or not isolated

ok one last question

i have two devices on the local network (Ethernet connected) that i would want to give priority over any other device for any traffic type.
they send a signal out to the internet and receive a reply back every 10 seconds or so. i would want this prioritised over any other traffic at all times.
is this possible? the two devices have static local IP addresses.

You can try setting up another QOS rule with the ' Priority ' set to high for the upstream rule, the downstream you can't as there is no option to set the ' Priority '
