i have my primary and secondary DNS set to Google in the WAN service settings.
is it possible to set different DNS servers depending on the connection to the router?
ie i have a main WIFI and guest WIFI, so is it possible to have the main WIFI have one DNS and the guest have a different one?
DNS settings (8800NL 1st gen)

Re: DNS settings (8800NL 1st gen)
If you fully isolate the guest wifi, and create a new interface group, then on the LAN page select the 'Group Name' and untick the 'Use Router's setting as DNS Server' and enter the DNS servers you want to use.chenks wrote:i have my primary and secondary DNS set to Google in the WAN service settings.

Example
1. Click on Interface Grouping (once logged into the router under 'Configuration >> LAN')
2. Click on 'Add'
3. Enter a 'Group Name' eg guest
4. Under 'Available LAN Interfaces' select your 'Guest Network' and click on the arrow pointing left, so the guest wifi network should now be added to 'Grouped LAN Interfaces'
5. Click on 'Apply'
6. Under 'Group Isolation' tick the box and click on 'Apply'
7. Click on 'LAN >> Ethernet'
8. Under 'Group Name' select your guest wifi group for this example I used 'guest'
9. Tick 'LAN Side Firewall' (optional, stop clients from connecting to all other ports and connecting to the router )
10. Untick 'Use Router's setting as DNS Server' enter the DNS servers you want to use and click on 'Apply'

Jump to stage 7, its very important that you change the 'Group Name' to your guest wifi group, then to step 10chenks wrote:my guest wifi is already fully isolated, so i could jump straight to stage 10 ?

Re: DNS settings (8800NL 1st gen)
nice, i'll give it a try tonight.
i've got a local pi-hole DNS server and want to test it on one of my networks.
the guest WIFI seems to the prime candidate to test it on.
although, with the guest wifi being isolated, it won't be able to see the DNS server, will it?
guest wifi is on 192.168.2.x
and the DNS server is on ethernet 192.168.1.x

That's right, clients will have to connect to the same interface group to see each other.chenks wrote:nice, i'll give it a try tonight.

Re: DNS settings (8800NL 1st gen)
damn, that's not going to work then.
so how would i be able to have a local DNS server that everyone could see, no matter what network group they were connected to?
i only have two groups at the moment
default (ethernet and main wifI)
guest (guest wifi)

well it's not really.
it's either one or none?
i can apply it to the main group but not the guest group.
