8800 AXL As Modem Only

Post by Chris02 »

Been using the 8800, on latest firmware, for about 3 years without issue except the poor wifi coverage. I now need greater coverage and a VPN facility so i have purchased a Linksys 1900 ACS Router which is currently running behind the 8800.

I have tried changing the settings on the 8800 so that it operates as a modem only but have failed miserably. Tried setting it up afresh but the isp seems to want to configure it. Tried changing the settings in WAN services to bridging and half bridge, tried turning off NAT and firewall etc. but when hitting apply settings change back and wont hold. Currently running on ZEN Fibre to cabinet.

Any help appreciated.

Try a different browser, attached is some examples, if all fails reset the router back to factory default settings and try following the screen shots. (as you haven't stated if you are on ADSL or VDSL I have attached both examples)
The ISP Zen don't use TR-069 so shouldn't be able to configure your router

Yep, then setup your Linksys for a PPPoE connection (enter your broadband username and password), and plug a Ethernet connection from the Billion to the Linksys WAN port

You can also disable the wireless on the 8800AXL as its not needed

You need to plug a Ethernet connection to the 8800AXL, with a static IP address within the same range

Router - 192.168.1.254
Static IP for LAN - 192.168.1.100

Hi,

I'm trying to do the same as Chris02, and use my Billion 8800AXL purely as a modem. Try as I might, I cannot get to the VDSL WAN Service interface as shown in Billion_Fan's post above. When I select the Configuration > WAN Service tab, I am directed to the interface shown in Chris02's image above. I have edited the ptm0.1 section with the same values, but despite a steady DSL light on the 8800AXL, there is no internet passing through to the router.

If anybody could point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful!

Thanks,

Mark

Panic over!

Had to change a setting on the Linksys router - VLAN to off, then all working fine.
