Can't get connected

Post by aj1pro »

Hi,

I need to use pppoe to connect to my ISP and have found this link: http://forum.billion.uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=3221

But I don't have permissions to download the attachments so I have no idea how to do it. Can someone help?

Thanks.

Try running through the quick start option, changing the WAN to PPPoE then entering your broadband username and password in sections provided

Is your ISP talktalk by any chance?

talktalk use IPoE for a Fibre/VDSL connection and PPPoA for a ADSL

PPPoE is normally used for Fibre/VDSL BT, PlusNet, Zen, IDnet etc

Hi again, thanks for getting back to me. I have tried the quick setup but I get the following error:

"Transport endpoint is not connected."

On the diagnostic section it passes the DSL check but can't authenticate. I am pretty certain I have the right username and password, but don't know what the error above means.

I'm in the Channel Islands and trying to replace an ASUS N66U (it drops connection randomly). Do I need a separate modem? I assumed this came with a modem in-built...

Any further help greatly appreciated!

If your on talktalk vdsl fibre you don't need a username and password. talktalk authenticates the account using your phone line details.
As billion_fan posted :- click on the configuration section then click on the WAN section go to your PTM0.1 connection and click the "edit" option... on this screen select "IP over Ethernet" from the top dropdown... then change the VLAN mux ID to "101" and change the 8021P to "1", finally change the MTU to 1500.... and click "appy" that should be that!!!"

Thanks piston...I'm not on Talk talk but do you know if there's a way to disable 802.1p/q? I looked in my ASUS router and this is disabled, but when I tried to enter "-1" in the Billion it didn't recognise the number!

Found this but not 100% it's your provider? scroll down till you get to the section "VDSL router settings for non-Sure supplied equipment"
