8800NL: bridge mode with TalkTalk (DHCP)

Post by arobertson676 »

TalkTalk uses DHCP to get an IP address, rather than PPPoE.

Is it possible to use the 8800NL in bridge mode with a router getting the IP address from TalkTalk via DHCP?

Yes this should be possible, just set the 8800 in 'Bridge' mode and setup your connecting router to 'Obtain a IP address automatically' on the WAN side (on the 8800NL don't forget to tag the '802.1P Priority to 0 and the '802.1Q VLAN ID' to 101

I tried this, but I got an IP address conflict with my Asus RT-AC88U router (192.168.1.1).

Do I need to change the IP address on the Billion 8800 to some other subnet?

Also, I presume I need to disable DHCP on the Billion, but can't find the screen for this. Does it disappear in Bridge mode?

In Bridge mode DHCP option is disabled automatically (once you set to the Bridging mode)

Normally you have to change the LAN subnet to 192.168.0.254 on Billion as the Asus is running on 192.168.1.x

Billion im a bit confused with the "802.1P Priority to 0" some people say use 2 some people say use 0 for the "802.1P Priority" can you clear this up for me please.

I'm with TalkTalk using a similar setup. My 8800nl is set to use 802.1P Priority 2 however "0" will also work if you don't subscribe to TalkTalk IPTV service.
