Can i add/remove a wireless laptop with ease?

Post by Scribbles »

Hi,
I need some help please. I am not a complete novice but not an expert either.
I would love to buy this router as reviews are good for rural places like mine. However, I have one question. I need a router that I can easily add or remove a laptop from any time. I am a foster carer and need to be able to control the internet use as I also need the PC for work. I have a lot of teenage boys in the house (my own and their friends as well as foster children) and sometimes it can get out of hand. I also need to turn them off sometimes in the evening on a school night but don't want to turn the whole internet off. From the manual I see I can do something in the firewall bit with Mac but if the ip address is not static how will I know which laptop it is. Also. is it easy to just switch access on and off as I don't want to be fiddling around for ages.
Some routers make this very easy and it's the only thing stopping me buying at the moment.
Any advice gratefully received.

Also, is this router DLNA certified?

Thank you in advance

You can assign each of the laptops with reserved IP addresses within the DHCP range within the router as opposed to setting them up in individual laptops where the users could easily re-enable DHCP and then you can use the time restrictions facility for each laptop.

Follow the same route as you would when assigning a static IP address to something like a printer - which would normally be outside of the DHCP range.
