Well all seemed fine last night. However this morning, the router had dropped all wifi connections and refused to allow any connections to be re-established. I tried to connect my laptop via ethernet but it also refused to connect.
Back on my trusty Netgear router at present.
Any further suggestions before i send it back as faulty?
What I find strange is not getting into the web interface, on top of the other problems WiFi loss of internet, I’m pretty convinced it’s an on board regulator going faulty, if you got it from a decent company say can I try one more and even give them a link to this post they can see you’ve tried everything.
Sorry I can’t think of anymore ideas Billion_ fan is the man who knows the programming side, I’m more on the hardware side myself.

I don't think its a hardware issue, the only way to see what is wrong is looking at the system log, but as the web gui is locking up, a syslog server will be needed

I'll try the alternate firmaware this evening.
If that fails I'll return it to the retailer (Amazon). I may well request a replacement unless there is another device that anybody can recommend.
I would recommend try another especially now you said you got it from Amazon you might as well try the other firmware but my gut feeling is still a very rare hardware problem, I may be wrong but I don’t see how changing firmware could possibly rectify the problems you got, it’s not bricked because it would be like it permanently it’s that two hour grace period then you have major problems.
I had a D-Link router some years back that I could not login until I let it cool down as I was packing it up to send back I heard something rattle inside I popped the lid off and the heat sink from an IC had come off allowing it to overheat I didn’t have enough silicon glue to keep in place I replaced the proper silicon based glue no more problems.
I’m not suggesting opening it it’s not worth it for three reasons Amazon will change with no problem but unless you are very lucky and see something obvious there is very little you can do nowadays because how small surface mount components are also you will lose you’re warranty.
Well over 3days have passed with an apparent stable router.
I reconnected the WD MyCloud last night and all is still working this morning. So that appears fine.
Well almost, I have just tried to access the router GUI (192.168.1.254) and its unresponsive via wifi or ethernet, which is strange as the router is still connected and working!
I have completed a reboot and I can again access the GUI.
I really cant understand why one version of the firmware works fine for osme and for others.
I am still contemplating returning the hardware as I yet to remain convinced that there isnt something wrong.
Well i know billion_fan knows the software and programming side he leaves me standing way behind without a doubt, and i was convinced it was a hardware problem but when you said it worked for 3 days i must admit as you've passed the 2 hours or so i feel that has ruled out a hardwear issue even though it is cooler weather now.
Does it only hang with WD MyCLoud if so then i'm sure billion_fan will sort it for you.
