Upgrading antennae on BIPAC7800?

Post by gerryk »

I recently mentioned our problems with wireless range in our old, rambling house: question (probably naive!): Would installing higher gain antennae on the 7800N improve wireless range?

I don't think it will, the range will not improve but the strength within the current range will improve.

Another option is our homeplug devices which can extend the wireless range using your normal electrical circuit to transfer data.

The units are called Bipac P106N and come as a pair, the wired device connects to your router, the wireless device connects in the location where you need to extend the wireless signal

More information on the Bipac P106N can be found here

I would imagine the only way you could improve this would be to use directional antennas rather than omnis, but then obviously you will only really improve it in one direction.
