Hi ,
Would it be possible to buy a replacement wifi card for the 7800n ? From Billion or another source ?
I know its a RaLINK RT2880F ( VID 1814 , PID 0801 ) but this seems quite hard to source on the open market.
Is there ANY other card that would work, I know another manufacturer is quite improbable but is there a more available RaLink card ?
Like these :
http://www.sparklan.com/product.php?fun ... prod_id=40 WMIR-270N RaLink by SPARKLAN
http://www.sparklan.com/product.php?fun ... prod_id=49 WMIR-269GN RaLink by SPARKLAN
and obviously the addition of a small heatsink / possibly from old card.
Do the mini PCI ; PID/VID values need to be identical or is it VID ( Vendor id ) thats critical and not so much the PID ( Product identifier ) as long as the drivers are of a similar type and in the " /etc/Wireless/RT2880/iNIC_ap.bin " Anyone tried swopping one yet ?
I have a dead router from a friend and would like to make it work again for him , but not sure where to go from here ,the rest of the router seems to be fine just NO wifi.
Here is a picture from google of the inside of a 7800n showing the card

Re: Replacement Wifi Card ??
PM the serial number of the device, and can tell you if the unit has the older smaller wireless card or the newer larger wireless card

Cool , I'll email him now and try to get one .
Out of interest is the picture above of the small or large wifi card , and what is the smaller card is it still RaLink ?
Are they interchangeable , eg : Is the mainboard the same or not ?
As in could I put my RaLink 2880 in his to verify that is the issue before going too deep.

The picture above is the newer wireless card (larger one) they are both RaLink cards
They are interchangeable but if you have the older smaller wireless card the PCB board will have to be modifed so the newer larger wireless card can fit
If you need to verify the issue, you can do so by sending us the system log.

When you say modified , I assume the heatsinks clash on the board ?
Most likely the one that is on CPU ? So I could probably get past that just to do a quick test, would like to test main board is ok before trying to source a wifi card.
Regards the logs etc , I will have to wait till I manage to get it off him , he is in no way Tech savvy .

Thanks for the PM , will try and convince him to fit another router ( I have one he can borrow ) and bring it round , that way I can do a copy of the system log , and send with the RMA info.
Out of curiosity , are there any cards available for these from you or another supplier that you can recommend ?
