System log message. Is it bad news?

Post by clive65 »

I've had my 8900ax2400 for a couple of days and a message has appeared about three times in the system log.

"Mar 17 17:29:58 user info syslog: wl0 reinit occurred .."

Is this something serious? I purchased it from Amazon, so I still have time to send it back if it is. I have the latest firmware installed.

Thank you for your help.

Looks like a wireless 2.4ghz restarted, normally this occurs when the following is performed/set

1. Wireless channel set to 'Auto'
2. If you made any wireless changes to the 2.4ghz band.

Thank you for your speedy response.

I assume then, that this is normal behavior and not a fault of some kind?

Yes, I have got my 2.4ghz set to auto but the channel has not changed. Is the log message to do with the router scanning to check for a better channel?
Should I select a channel rather than leave the setting on Auto?

Yes you can set a fixed channel and see if the logs show again. (just for a piece of mind)

Edit I will check with our engineers to see why this logs occur and report back in due course.

Thank you.

Yes, it would be of benefit to see what the engineers make of that log entry. I look forward to their reply.

In the meantime, I have now set a fixed channel on 2.4ghz to see if that log entry re appears.

UPDATE:

The same message has re appeared in the system log with a fixed channel selected:

"Mar 19 05:40:09 user info syslog: wl0 reinit occurred .. "

I've reverted back to "Auto channel" selection. I would be grateful if the engineers could check on the log message as soon as is possible. Like I said previously, I still have time to send the unit back to Amazon if the log message indicates a fault with the unit.

Our engineers have confirmed this is nothing to worry about.

This will be logged when the 2.4ghz Broadcom chipset reconfigures it self to get the better performance.
