I have a few PC's on a Lan at home in the 192.168.2.xxx range
All access the internet via the 7800n
I can see the other PC's on the network and share files (Windows 7)
I cannot ping another PC by name it returns an address from DNS beginning with 67
If I look up the local address of that PC (in the 192 range I can ping it)
How do I correct the addresses being returned from the Billion ?
TIA

Re: Local lan computers have internet address
Try the following changes
1. Login to the routers web configuration page
2. Click on 'WAN' on the left hand column (Basic Menu)
3. Unitck 'Obtain A DNS server automatically'
4. Change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
5. Click on 'Apply'
6. Let the router save and reboot
8. Do another ping test with the computers name

Re: Local lan computers have internet address
Thanks for the reply
Changed to Google DNS and the result is the same - pinging a local PC gives a 67 address
Update: forget the above!
Every time I put those addresses in the router would hang on restart - I then I had to power off which meant the settings stayed the same.
This seems to be a bug where the DNS box is unticked already (I was using OpenDNS)
So I set the DNS to automatic (from my ISP) and the local ping now works fine
thanks

There is no bug on firmware 1.06g, as I have changed the DNS servers lots of times and it works fine.dmsims wrote:Thanks for the reply

Yes the issue was with open DNS servers, that was the reason I asked you to try google DNS servers
