7800N & VOIP telephone problem

Post by philifa »

Just purchased a 7800N which is superb for internet browsing. However, my VOIP phone which worked fine with my old Netgear router will now not work. When I receive a call it rings but on answering I cannot hear anything and neither can the caller. I have since put the Netgear back on and the VOIP works fine. Obviously the problem lies with the 8700N router. Technical assistance have so far only come up with disabling the SIP ALG, which was already disabled anyway. .....has anybody else any idea of what's causing the problem. Suggestions will be gratefully received because if I cant solve this problem I have wasted my money on the new router.
VOIP phone is a Siemens Gigaset C47H.

Hi,
I use Skype with a microphone, walkman-type earphones and a web cam and have no problems with video or phone calls. In fact, calls to the USA and N. Zealand are amazingly good... often better than UK calls - but that's probably down to the other party's equipment.

I notice that Skype is listed in the UPnP Portmap... 2 settings, UDP and TCP Protocols. Maybe you need some similar settings for your VOIP client? Other than that, I can't help

A guy from Billion rang last Friday. Unfortunately he didn't have any more of an idea than I have!! Still waiting for some advice as to what I think will turn out to be a simple setting adjustment.

One possibility ( a guess I stress ... )

The Netgear's SIP ALG was enabled by default, and it actually worked ( amazing, as they can cause more trouble than they are worth sometimes )
The Gigasets config is not set up for STUN or a proxy, and as such needed the ALG to work.
The Billion's ALG is disabled by default (as you found out) so your sip account on the gigaset won't work at the moment ...

Obvious question I know (sorry), but have you tried enabling the ALG on the Billion ?

If so , and it doesn't work, you might have to set up STUN or a proxy (in the gigaset) for your sip account ....

Thanks for your input. I have tried with and without ALG, STUN etc, etc and still no joy. The ip hone will work sometimes, but not always so I can't rely on it. I am back using my old netgear router again and the ip phone is perfect. Anybody want to buy a practically new 7800N?
I had a couple of calls from Billion technical based here in the UK. They were as much use as a chocolate ashtray. Needless to say I will be steering clear of Billion products in the future. Once bitten twice shy.

The 7800N is an all round high performance wireless router that can be used with all service providers currently operating in the UK. Just check can you not make a call at all, or does it just cut out after a few seconds. As while searching I found the best sites which provides the good service at all.

Do not post the same link as spammers, as this will be removed.

It can be a problem with to common things about router .
First is its Router configuration and Second one is
With its device working properly or not.
then if your router is not configure properly then make it with service provider only..
And if its working fine then check its device like adeptor and antennas are working fine or not.

I am having exactly the same problem.

I was using a cheap Sitecom wireless modem router and a Gigaset S685IP with 4 handsets connected via Voiptalk which worked great for about a year. I then decided to replace the Sitecom with a better router and bought a 7800N. That worked fine for a while and then suddenly I started getting problems. Sometimes I can make an outgoing call and everything is OK, other times I make the call, hear the beeps while the connection is being made and then no more audio, even though looking at the handset it shows that the other party has answered, but neither of us can hear anything. Incoming calls ring the phone but when I answer there is no audio, although again it shows on the handset that the call is connected.

I have tried everything: ALG on, ALG off, set up a DMZ, port forwarding, changing the ports on the S685IP, rearranging the audio codecs. I've had BIllion support try and Voiptalk support but no joy.

I've gone back to the Sitecom router and it all works fine. If I can't get it sorted soon I'll be selling the 7800N, which is a shame.
