Help with IP Routed Settings

Post by Doberman »

Good evening,

I wonder if anyone here can shed any light on a problem I am having with my 7800N.

Basically I have been given a router by my ISP, however I wish to use my own 7800N and they are not interested in helping me do so. However, when I spoke to someone in their tech dept. he unofficially said 'just plug it in' there is no username and password (IPoE).

From the router they gave me I can see broadband settings and it has the following settings:

WAN CONFIG
• Adsl over atm
• Mode: routing
• IPoE
• IPv4 only
VPI:0 VCI:33
DSL link :EoA
Encapsulation mode: LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
SERVICE Category: UBR Without PCR
Obtain ip auto
Enable NAT routing
IMGP Proxy Enable:Yes
Apply as default gateway:Yes
MTU:1500
Make default gateway

There is nowhere to enter a username/pass on the router they gave me in it's current state, only if you change the settings to PPPoA etc, then that appears.

and although I have seen a 'UBR without PCR' option on pictures of the billion settings online, I can't actually see any 'UBR without PCR' options on my 7800N?!?

This whole IPoE thing is new to me and I would love to suss this out and use the 7800N with my new ADSL2 connection.

I have tried numerous settings and cannot for the life of me get online, although the 7800N does have a dsl connection.

If anyone could shed any light on this I'd be most grateful!

try the following

1. Login to the router
2. Click on 'WAN' on the left hand side
3. Change the protocol to 'PPPOE'
4. Change the VPI to 0 VCI to 33
5. Make sure the encap method is set to LLC/SNAP
6. Enter your ISP's username and password in the sections provided
7. Click on 'Apply'
8. The modem should now save and reboot
9. Once rebooted test your internet connection.

If this fails to work, can you tell me who your ISP is??

Hi Billion Fan,

Thanks for your reply. Those are the settings I have been trying, but I don't seem to be able to find the correct settings such as "UBR without PCR" etc.

Basically, on the router my ISP gave me, there is no username and password, other than that, all the settings you suggested are what I have tried to use (which I obtained from the ISP router). I obtained the supervisor account password from the backup config file and there is no username/password settings saved in there either.

On the ISP router, the setting is PoE with no username/password entry possible. When I select PPPoA, the username and password boxes appear. So, it appears there is no username and password to use. This is a rural broadband FTTC setup with a small ISP, not a big name brand.

The only option I see on my 7800N that has no username/password is the MPoA? but can't get that to work either.

The main thing I cannot find is the "UBR without PCR" settings though, as surely that will be the page I need. I must be missing something fairly obvious, but I have searched the Advanced settings and cannot find the ATM Interface options, which looks like I need, as seen here: http://billion-fae.blogspot.co.uk/2011/ ... rface.html

The thread you refer to is for the Bipac 7800NEL, which is a different model that was never released in the UK.

Who is your ISP, also if you are using a FTTC connection, then you should be using the EWAN port, not ADSL.
