Can not use 7800N for printing from iPads

Post by jrwxfs »

Here is the situation I have been fighting with form over a year:

I have a a 7800N which has been an excellent modem router on ADSL 2, however what ever I try I can not get it to allow our iPads to connect to HP Airprint compatible printers, tried with 2 printers and 2 iPads. Some facts

1) printers connected on same wireless SSID as iPads, the iPads can not find printer.
2) printer connected by LAN cable to the router and the iPad can not find it
3) No issues with desktop running Windows
4) I have recently switch to Plusnet fibre and their Thompson router immediately facilitated printing from tHe iPad to printer
5) having a separate SSID on a 3300SN wireless access point allows connection on that SSID only.
6) latest firmware is installed.

Due to the design of our home I need a strong wireless router and a repeater of some sort and am therefore very keen to get the 7800n working as the Plusnet Thompson is weak and has no WDS functionality.

An suggestions please?

We tested Airprint with the 7800N and it was working with a iPad and iPhone.

Make sure your printer is set to 'Obtain a IP address automatically' and your iPad is connected to the same SSID

Thanks for the response but as per my original post I did use the same SSID. I also have the DCHP to automatic. The issue appears to be with the router as other makes work with Airprint no problem on the same system configuration.

Looks like I will be forced to move to the dark side and buy an AirPort Extreme.

I think Billion should be examining their implementation of zero configuration network protocols because other devices like my Internet enabled TV also have better connectivity when the Billion router is swapped out for a cheap Thompson TGN528.

What firmware version are you running?

We tested the Airprint function with a HP photosmart 6510 and it works fine here in our lab.

Just to add I have the same issue

Pc is connected to the Billion via a cable, I can print and scan to the printer (Canon MG4250) but if I search for the printer it will not find it?

I'm on Sky Fibre with the hacked Billion router firmware, not upgraded as I saw no reason to, is the latest for the 7800n tested working with Airprint?

Sorry to hope in on this thread btw ;)

Mart

Tested working on firmware 1.06g using iphone 4s and HP Photosmart 6510

Printer is set to obtain a IP address automatically

Thanks for your response Billion Fan but I am afraid that yet again I must refer you to my opening post. I am running the latest firmware. I should also point out that when I installed it I reset to factory settings and then reconfigured as with previous updates. Same problem with all versions.

Glad you joined in Mart, I think Billion have a significant issue because as I found it is not just Airprint devices that can not be detected. We can now add Cannon and Samsung to the list of devices. I have Thompson, Netgear and Apple routers that all work with my printer and TV. Use Billion Network equipment and the problems start.

Hi All

Well I put the Sky SR101 unit back in place and "Hey Presto" the iPhone, iPad and Android devices could all see the printer and print to it, I didn't have to do anything other than reset the printer for the IP range of the Sky unit

Now this leaves me in a predicament as I want to great signal strength of the Billion but what is the point in me having an airprint enabled printer and devices if the Billion won't allow them to work?

Is there a way to fix this otherwise I can see myself selling the billion in favor of another model, maybe an Asus etc

Many thanks Mart
