Y-CAM can't connect wirelessly to 7800N

Post by KeithM »

Hi,

I've just bought a 7800N (software version 1.06g) to replace my Netgear router. After the switchover, I've got everything working, apart from the wireless connection to my Y-Cam S camera. From Advanced/Status/ARP Table, I can see that it establishes a connection, but if I try to ping it, I get "Destination host unreachable". The hard wired connection works as expected, and allows me to configure the Y-Cam, and use its option to test the configuration of the wireless connection. What else do I need to do?

Thanks, Keith

Have you tried to set your Y-cam to obtain the IP address automatically, then setup a fixed host rule for your Y-cam so the Y-Cam will also get the same IP address? After everything is setup you will have to renew or power cycle your Y-cam

Fixed Host guide below

Thanks for the suggestion. I've done that, so I can access the camera from the other side of the router, and it works with a hard wired connection. The problem is getting the wireless connection to work. I've reconfigured the old Netgear router to have the same wireless settings as the 7800N, and the Y-Cam talks to that OK.

When the Y-Cam connects wirelessly to the 7800N, I can see its IP address in the ARP table, and the UPnP Portmap, but I can't access it with ping or from my browser using http://192.168.1.10:8150. All other wireless devices work.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

How strange, if you can't ping the device there is no chance of being able to login to the device.

Have you tried to change the wireless channel width to 20mhz??

Its hard to comment as I don't have a y-cam here to test with

Your Netgear router will have had a different IP address to the Billion router. (192.168.0.1 vs 192.168.1.254)

You need to log directly to your Y Cam using the Y Cam installation software to change the gateway IP address to match the Billion Router.

The method is in the Y Cam instructions, but essentially, you change the IP address of the PC you use to directly wire to the camera in the Network Connections section of Windows to 192.168.1.20. You then run the Y-Cam software to detect the camera, and then you can run the setup to change the Gateway IP address.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I couldn't see how to change the channel width to 20 MHz, but it prompted me to try using another channel. I had originally configured the 7800N to use channel 11, the same as the old Netgear router, and then set it to Auto, which resulted in channel 1 being used. After changing it to channel 12, a painfully slow wireless connection was established with the Y-Cam, but it picked up to full speed in less than a minute.

The Y-Cam is about 3 metres from the 7800N, in direct line of sight, so I can't explain this, but at least everything is now working! I hope this helps anyone else who hits this problem.
