Does anyone know what EMC standards the 7800n is supposed to meet?
The reason I am asking is that a BT engineer has just replaced my NTE 5 front plate with the new type. And the new type has the surge protection removed. See, for instance http://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/nte5-des ... 2-t76.html. And just a few days later my 7800n died. It will no longer sync to the incoming ADSL signal - at all (despite reboots, resets, etc). I know the ADSL signal is fine because other routers are working fine.
The 7800n just sits there and flashes the ADSL LED continually. All other functions of the router appear to be working fine, which suggests damage to the PSTN front end of the router.
The damage could be a coincidence of course, but........

Have you tried a factory reset?
I had an issue with the 7800N that on changing some DHCP settings caused the router to stop sync'ing, which was a strange thing to happen! On a factory reset it was fine, however I had to add all settings back in.
Personally I think the 7800N is memory challenged and sometimes things get corrupt in NVRAM.
Worth a go.
