So I used to have a 7800N (best router I ever had, massive wifi coverage, great ADSL performance). I gave it to my Mum though as she had a terrible ADSL connection and the billion has sorted it out a treat.
I now have sky fibre and it's v fast but I miss the billion's wifi coverage. I have a tp link WDR3600 with dd-wrt on it. The wifi RANGE is AWFUL.. really bad, billion blew it away, I'm not into range extenders and stuff prefer a single router.
I am about to buy another 7800N for me but this is stopping me...
- it's very old now
- it's still v expensive £110 on amazon
- I don't need the ADSL modem after all (am on sky fibre with bt openreach modem)
Despite that I still think I might buy it. However, is there a better billion product for me, I don't need 3G/4G stuff I see built into some? Is there a better competitor product I should get.. I do trust the billion though as I had one before.
Grateful for any comments.

I had users who have brought the 7800N off ebay and and found out the wireless had failed, also the unit was out of warranty (the reason they must of sold it I guess)billyt wrote:Anyone got any views?

My advise would be to get one off Amazon, as you get the full two years warranty with the product.
Regarding other products, the 7800N is one of the best performers regarding wireless range/strength

The Bipac 7800DXL has two antennas compared to three on the 7800N,billyt wrote:What about the 7800 DXL?
The problem with the 7800DXL is the two antenna's are fixed, and cannot be removed to add higher gain antenna.
I would say the 7800DXL is on par or just off when compared with the 7800N.

I took the plunge a purchased a new 7800N on Amazon, I figure you get what you pay for. Ebay prices seem high really so I went for security of new. Wierdly I'm slightly disappointed with the wifi range of this new one (is ok just maybe my perception but doesn't seem quite as good as the last one I owned - now handed down to my Mother as she needs it as is on a long line ADSL connection). Will tweak the wifi settings and move the antennas a bit maybe. Am wondering if there is interference in the area, perhaps. Also seems to run a little warm (normal?). None the less, am happy.
I'm running a little website called Ace Kit, to review good things to buy on Amazon - the Billion features, just mentioning in case anyone's interested in my ramblings. I'm very complimentary as that's been my experience. http://www.acekit.co.uk/products/1-billion-7800n. Am hoping this one is as good as the last one!
