7800X Time Restriction
I've set some time restrictions up in Configuration>Security>Time Restriction but they don't seem to be working. The times and days I've entered are when I don't want a device with a specified MAC address to have internet access.
Has anyone else got this feature to work? Is it perhaps a feature of my network in that all the devices I want to block are wireless and served by access points around the house?

Re: 7800X Time Restriction
I have the same issue.
Although the restrictions do work to some extent.
I.e. If my pc is set to turn off say 10pm and I try and access the internet at say 10:05pm then this works fine, but if I'm watching a YouTube video or I'm on Skype at say 9:58pm, once the 10pm ha arrived, these applications will still run until the video has finished or I end the Skype call, then I can't access them.
Any ideas of who to make sure that at 10pm, all internet activity stops at 10pm?

Re: 7800X Time Restriction
For me, the restrictions don't work at all so glad to hear that yours sort of work. I'll do some further tests with a PC connected directly to the router. It used to work in the way you describe when I used a router running Gargoyle, but this used IP checking rather than MAC address.
I think the issue of active connections not dropping on time is common with these systems - It's a firewall rule that's used to implement the block and it's only checked when a connection is initiated.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could setup bandwith throttling like you can in the draytek routers. That way I could set up a range of IP addresses to be 1kbps at 10pm. That way whatever is happening the internet just crawls. But I can't work out how to do it on billion routers.

Re: 7800X Time Restriction
I just tested the issue here on a 7800DXL (running 2.32d), everything seems to work fine, see the attached screen shots (this was using a wired conenction directly to the 7800DXL)

Re: 7800X Time Restriction
Thanks for testing this. I haven't had a time to run a wired test yet, but my assumption is that my restrictions aren't working for wireless devices because the traffic appears to be coming from the AP MAC rather than the MAC of the device. I've posted a suggestion that the time restriction should be IP rather than MAC based.
For each restriction, I've set the time schedule manually using the checkboxes on the Time Restrictions GUI rather than creating a separate schedule (I didn't know that option was there to be fair - It's well hidden!). I'll try some more but perhaps I'll have to use the IP Filtering Incoming & Outgoing settings to achieve what I'm after, albeit that this won't block LAN <> LAN traffic.

Yes if you wish to set up the rules using the IP address, you will have to use the 'Outgoing IP Filtering Setup' set with 'Action' 'Drop'pwatson wrote:Thanks for testing this. Re: 7800X Time Restriction
This does not work for me as again if i'm already using the PC for youtube or Skype then connection is still made until the video has finished or i hang up the skype call. I cannot get the time restriction or the Outgoing IP filtering Setup to work while the PC is using the internetbillion_fan wrote:Yes if you wish to set up the rules using the IP address, you will have to use the 'Outgoing IP Filtering Setup' set with 'Action' 'Drop'pwatson wrote:Thanks for testing this. I'll run some more test later (running other tests at the moment) and drop you a update latertrevdance wrote:This does not work for me as again if i'm already using the PC for youtube or Skype then connection is still made until the video has finished or i hang up the skype call. But from my test, the internet should stop working as I cannot ping 8.8.8.8 which is google DNS servers

I'll have a word with our engineers, to see what the issue might be with Time Restriction and Skype/youtube vids discussion has already startedtrevdance wrote:This does not work for me as again if i'm already using the PC for youtube or Skype then connection is still made until the video has finished or i hang up the skype call.
