Streaming video issue with 7800N (EWAN)

Post by Keefter »

I swapped out my BT Homehub for the 7800N and managed to set it up as a router using the EWAN port but since doing so I've had terrible problems with streaming video from the net (connected via ethernet). Often times the stream just stops and requires restrarting. it's strange, it's as though the traffic passing through the router gets stuck or something. I'm a bit of a novice so I hope that makes some sense. nothing else has changed bar the router being used so it's not the internet and its not my pc. Hopefully someone can recommend some further settings? or perhaps the router simply isnt that capable?

My thanks in advance

So I assume you have the 7800N connected to a open reach modem, is this correct?

What website are you using to watch videos eg You tube, BBC iPlayer etc

When viewing videos in low def, does the same issue occur? (or does it only effect HD videos)

What speeds are you getting through the 7800?? (try a speedtest with speedtest.net)

Does the same issue occur when using a wireless device when connected to the router?

So I assume you have the 7800N connected to a open reach modem, is this correct? Yes

What website are you using to watch videos eg You tube, BBC iPlayer etc various, but they are all Flash based so far, ITV live in the ITV player for example

When viewing videos in low def, does the same issue occur? (or does it only effect HD videos) I havent seen an option for the definition tbh

What speeds are you getting through the 7800?? (try a speedtest with speedtest.net) http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3547502360

I havent tried that tbh but will crank up my laptop and give it a whirl and get back to you

thanks for the fast response :)

What firmware version is the 7800N on? Not sure that'll be a factor but good to know.

I just tested ITV live for around a hour (watching Jeremy Kyle  I feel dumber ) and never had any pauses etc.

You might as well upgrade to latest firmware attached first

I would suggest resetting the device back to factory default settings once upgraded, only setup wireless security and the WAN side (eg broadband settings) and test again,
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
