7800DXL vs 7800N 2 questions..

Post by Aeschylus »

Hi Guys

I see the 7800DXL has come back into stock, can I ask does this work with SKy Fibre?

I might as well return my 7800N to Amazon (only got it a week ago) as the new version is only £20 more...

can I please ask does the 5ghz mixed with 2.4ghz really helo, as I have to use channel 13 on the 7800N as I live in a urban area so I pick up about 20 other wireless routers...

a bit nervous about buying the 7800DXL if we can not get a 100% conformation as brodbandbuyers returns policy are nothing compared to Amazon...

Any help please

Hi

You have a 7 day period in which you can return goods under the distance selling act regardless of who you buy it from for any reason. :)

It should indeed work with Sky Fibre.

5GHz will help as is it less populated generally, and also because 5GHz doesn't travel as far. The down side is while it may be less congested, it may still now work as well as 2.4GHz if you are using it from other rooms or from the outer edges of the range.

Just to reassure anyone: it definitely works with Sky Fibre.

It's a bit confusing which options you should pick in the installation (note to Billion folks!), because if you get it wrong it dumps you back to the menu and the instructions aren't the clearest thing in the world and seem to be based more around regular ADSL.

But, if you're like me, you'll bumble your way to the answer eventually (and slowly), haha.

Hi, sorry to dig up this old thread, could you link me to a guide on how to get the 7800dxl working with Sky fibre please? After a lot of searching I can only find whispers, abandoned threads and conflicting answers! Many thanks

Follow these steps to setup the 7800DXL/DX/VDOX with Sky Fibre

1. Reset the unit back to factory default settings
2. Click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN service'
3. Remove the 'pppoa0' interface which is used for ADSL
4. Click on the 'Add' button
5. Change the 'WAN' port to 'Ethernet'
6. Change the 'Type' to 'IP over Ethernet'
7. In the 'Option 61 Client ID' enter your skyusername and password with | in between the username and password, just like on the 7800N
8. Click on 'Next'
9. Under 'Available Routed WAN Interfaces' you will see your new 'ipoe' connection, select it and click on the arrow pointing left (so this 'ipoe' connection should now be listed under 'Selected Default Gateway Interfaces'
10. Then click on 'Next' and that should be it

I hope this helps :D
