Router Signal Unreliable / Keeps crashing (Wifi + Ether)
Hello new to this forum and to billion products so sorry if i have missed some things.
I ordered a new Billion 7800DXl to replace a router supplied by talktalk which had a fast connection but suffered drop outs.
However this Billion performs worse than the HG533, im sure that the billion is superior and i may have a faulty model.
Roughly when im connected via 802.11 b/g/n this is what happens:
Router connection drops every 30 secs.
Low download speed (speedtest.net) around 2mbps (usually get 8MBPS)
Low ping (30-40)
I also connected my pc to the router via ethernet i was getting:
High download speed 6-8MBps
High ping (300+) (i did change test servers on speedtest.net to make sure it wasn't a bad server or anything).
On the summary of the router screen it says:
Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps) 1020
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps) 8466
This leads me to suggest the line isnt the problem.
I would like to know whether I am right about having a generally faulty model or could there be other problems.
Thanks in advance,
LCarvalho

When you mention the router drops out, is that the ADSL or wireless signal?LCarvalho wrote:2.32d

Neither, just says unable to connect to internet, my isp say my line hasn't crashed for months. (still says connected to router)
Update: its stopped crashing but getting insane packet loss and desync when playing games.

Post a picture of you 'xDSL' page found under 'Status >> Statistics >> xDSl' .LCarvalho wrote:Neither, just says unable to connect to internet, my isp say my line hasn't crashed for months. (still says connected to router)

Try highering the SNR on the SNR page to 9 (found under 'Configuration >> WAN >> SNR) if the DSL light keeps flashing on the front of the router, when gaming etcLCarvalho wrote:

Changed it to 9, heres a speed test using wifi better than before but maybe i cant have the 7-8mbps im used too.
Will stress test it now to see if im getting desync and packet loss in games.

Yes the reason I asked you higher the SNR, is to make the line more stable, as it seems you might be having line issues at the moment. (Something the ISP (talktalk) should be able to see (dropout on ADSL) and should be able to investigate, the 7800DXL uses the Broadcom chipset so it should not be dropping out from looking at your xDSL stats)LCarvalho wrote:Changed it to 9, heres a speed test using wifi better than before but maybe i cant have the 7-8mbps im used too.
