Sky Broadband, Sync Speed fail

Post by Jack Regan »

Sky broadband, never been a wonderful service but with my 7800N connected it would sync at around 5Mb. Recent plummet down to 2/3Mb and usable even worse, slow d/l, high latency etc.

After jumping through Sky's t/shooting hoops they wanted to send a new router. After arguing with them and pulling out all my tech know how they where adamant they couldn't send an engineer without trying a new router. I Figured I would try the original, just to show them. Same cables, straight swap & sync'd straight in at 6Mb

Any suggestions?

Can you post a picture of your older routers ADSL stats, and then of the 7800N so we can compare?

Can you try and change the WAN modulator mode to 'ADSL2' and check the sync speeds, if that has the same results try G.DMT. (So you should only have ADSL2 ticked, all other modes will have to be un ticked, run the same test with G.DMT if the results are the same when using 'ADSL2'

Pretty much same sync speed for ADSL2 & G.DMT / 700/3234 & 800/3776 respectively.

Is the 7800N connecting to the same phone socket, using the same cable etc??

Can you try tweaking the SNR login to the device and then navigate to http://192.168.1.254/snr.html

Once the SNR hidden page, use the SNR value of 50 and see what sync speeds you get.
