BiPAC 7800N Wireless stopped working

Post by Apocwhen »

Hi,

I've had my BiPAC 7800N a long time now, since July 2010 and it's worked perfectly fine every day up until now.
Recently when I tried to connect to the Web Control panel for the router I would receive "400 bad request" errors so I checked the Billion support page for firmware updates and thought it would be best to apply the latest version. I had seen reports of the same problem and it was fixed in later firmware revisions.

I was previously running on 1.04a and downloaded the latest 1.06h version.
I applied the firmware update to router and set it to reset the settings back to the factory defaults as per the guidelines.

However, since the update my wireless functionality seems to be dead or at the very least quite unstable. Sometimes it will work. Other times the light will be on but there's nothing broadcasting in the SSID. Occasionally the light will go on and off at times too. Other times the LED won't come out at all. I've also had difficulty getting into the Web control panel from a wired connection now too.

Perhaps it has just been pure coincidence, bu it's been working fine every day for the last 4 years and all of a sudden these issues happened since the firmware update.
Can I go back to an older firmware version or am I stuck with a broken box now?

Has anyone got any recommendations I can try out? I've tried powering on the device with the reset button at the back of the router too, hoping it would clear any bad settings that could have been left behind. It worked for a day in that wifi stayed up all the time, but after powering the device off and on again it's back to its old ways.

Thanks

Have a look at this guide (different Billion model but same issue) quite a few people have achieved a successful repair. If your router is still under warranty make a claim on that in the first instance as this guide requires opening the device and breaking the warranty seal.

Or install an older firmware which should fix it. I upgraded my 7800N to the latest firmware without a problem but a clients 7800N lost the wireless. Installing an older firmware brought the wireless back.
