Hi Billion_Fan,

Thanks for the reply.

I did setup VPN on the Windows XP file server, and I got this working perfectly from both a remote PC or iPad. However...I then realised that Windows XP will not allow more than one VPN connection at a time, if one user logs in...it will not allow any further connections. We have 6 people in the company that I want to enable VPN for.

We have this Billion BiPac 7800N Router (which has been super stable & reliable) and I know it can do VPN. Our hope was to dial into the router to give us access to the company server (which is hardwired to the router).

I can't reboot the router now...as you say...after office hours (this evening) I will try rebooting it and trying it again. I did of cause save the settings to the flash...but there are several people relying on the internet for work, so...it has not been rebooted.

Thanks for the help...I'll post again a little later as soon as I have tried the reboot.

Cheers,

Also make sure your windows XP machine is not on, when you try and dial into the PPTP network.

If you still get issues, try checking your system log on the 7800N to see if there is anything logged there about a incoming PPTP connection.

Hello again,

Still no joy on this...Let me just confirm my thinking...

We have a company file server running Windows XP Professional SP3. We want to remotely (out of the office) access the files on this server by creating a VPN connection. I have setup VPN on the server using the "Incoming Connections"...and it works fantasticlly...for 1 user... which is far from ideal. I had to use port fowarding to enable this connection...a setting on the Billion router.

We have a Billion BiPac 7800N ADSL router than is the "hub" of our office network. There are x3 Dlink 24 port unmanaged switches connected to it, and our server...all hard-wired to the 4 ports of the Billion device. Currently, the server is set to a static IP address. We have a static external IP address...

I have setup the PPTP server on the Billion router as per the instuctions. There is no mention of opening up ports...or changing any firewall settings, surely I need a route through the firewall to allow incoming PPTP connections to the Router? If so...what do I need to set this to?

So far all I get on both the iPad or a Windows machine is a Error 812...incorrect username and/or password.

Any help would be appreciated...

Cheers,

Hello...

Ok...I have given up with this. I don't know if the router is faulty or I am doing something wrong (probably the latter). I will be purchasing "Windows Server 2003 Small Business Edition" which will allow up to 10 VPN connections at a time.

I hope othr people have more luck with this...but I just don't have the time to fight with this any longer.

Thanks for the advice Billion_Fan...I appreciate the efforts..

Cheers,

Laurence
