Yes but to use the 7800 you MUST use a vDSL modem to connect to the fibre internet (DSL port to vDSL port on the master phone socket) & then you connect the 7800 to the vDSL modem. That's by ewan to the lan1 port on the BT vDSL modem.

So my fibre was activated today. My BT Openreach modem is reporting the following:

do they look ok? my speedtest.net results are 10-15meg download. Upload looks ok, between 8 and 9. I'm just curious if i have a problem somewhere as my modem looks to be reporting a good sync speed?

Last 3 results (oldest first):

note: QoS is disabled on the BT Modem.

You maybe able to use the BT wholesale speedtest website at http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ to determine your profile.

The speeds should stabilise within the 10 day period but you're clearly syncing at your maximum speed of 40/10. On BT Infinity 2 I think you'd probably get the full 80/20 speeds.

Thanks - will try that when I get home. One thing I did notice that I still had Cat5 between router and end clients. I'm not sure if this was affecting the speedtest in any way but I changed them out for Cat5e and Cat6.

So my setup consists of:

BT Modem <-- Cat5e--> Billion 7800N <---Cat6---> 500mbps Homeplug <--Mains----> 5000mbps Homeplug <---Cat6---> Desktop

I have tried speedtest from laptop going straight to the 7800N using Cat6 but it didn't make that much of a difference.

Cat5 is good for 100mbps (2.5x your speed) so Cat5e/6 won't make any difference, although having said that I use Cat5e from my master socket to the BT modem (18metres) & then Cat6 to router etc.

I've only got 200mbps powerline adapters so I use Cat5 on that side of things.
